BOAT RAMP KIT
ALASKA, USA
Atqasuk has long been recognised as an important centre for traditional hunting and fishing activities, forming a vital part of daily life for the local community. Situated inland from the Arctic Ocean along the Meade River, approximately 60 miles southwest of Utqiagvik, the village lies within the North Slope Borough, a region that places strong emphasis on community wellbeing, environmental stewardship, and sustainable living. Given the ecological sensitivity of the surrounding landscape and the cultural significance of the area, it was essential that any solution for improving boat launch access aligned with these values. As a result, the project required an environmentally responsible, low-impact, and sustainable approach that would preserve the natural environment while supporting safe and reliable access to the river.
At average water levels, the designated boat launch area exhibited consistently soft and unstable ground conditions. The presence of fine, loose sand across the launch zone made manoeuvring vessels difficult and unpredictable. These conditions reduced traction and control during launch operations, increasing operational risk and preventing safe, controlled, and repeatable boat launches.
A 15 metre section of C40 Trackway® (3.3 metre width) was installed and securely anchored to form a stable Boat Ramp. Following installation, the ramp provided a firm and reliable surface, enabling safe and controlled boat launching operations. The Boat Ramp is designed to withstand extreme temperature conditions and remains fully operational even when iced over. If operational requirements change, the system can be easily recovered and redeployed at an alternative location.

“The area for boat launches was very soft and silty. The C40 Trackway® Boat Ramp Kit has been successfully deployed and recovered, and the variety of components have proved to be sufficient for the various requirements in this location.”
